Sing, sing, sing

  • This video gives another example of the importance of singing together in a range of contexts, both in groups and in a one-to-one situation. All are valuable. The physical responses to the music (clapping, waving hands) also provide the motivation for aerobic exercise.

    Filmed in several care homes including Dalemead, Twickenham and Cinnamon Group care homes: Eden Court, Battersea and Earlsfield Court, Bexhill.

    • Incorporate regular singing sessions into residents’ lives

    • Get to know your residents’ favourite songs. Use the radio or recordings as prompts

    • Choose specific songs to sing or play at different times of the day. Associate them with particular activities (e.g. lunch) and people (e.g. family)See the ‘knowing section’

    • Sing with residents during the day – perhaps making up words that are relevant to a particular activity E.g. getting dressed
