Sing, sing, sing

  • This video was filmed in several care homes including Dalemead, Twickenham and Cinnamon Group care homes: Eden Court, Battersea and Earlsfield Court, Bexhill.

It gives another example of the importance of singing together in a range of contexts, both in groups and in a one-to-one situation. All are valuable. The physical responses to the music (clapping, waving hands) also provide the motivation for aerobic exercise.

    • Incorporate regular singing sessions into residents’ lives

    • Get to know your residents’ favourite songs. Use the radio or recordings as prompts

    • Choose specific songs to sing or play at different times of the day. Associate them with particular activities (e.g. lunch) and people (e.g. family)See the ‘knowing section’

    • Sing with residents during the day – perhaps making up words that are relevant to a particular activity E.g. getting dressed
