Use music as a channel to access everyday language

  • This was filmed at Eden Court, a Cinnamon care home.

This video shows the use of ‘micro-songs’ and the importance of using music to communicate when the ability to understand language may no longer be there. There is an example of a resident with her son singing the ‘micro-songs’ together.

    • Teach specially composed short songs (these can be found on the website), in which everyday language is associated with particular melodies

    • Use these short songs to facilitate choice-making throughout the day

    • Encourage residents to express feelings through singing the short songs E.g. sad, happy, tired, anxious

    • Use the short songs to help residents understand what is happening in everyday lifeSee the ‘Knowing’ section
