Use music to accompany exercise and physiotherapy

  • This was filmed at Cinnamon Group care homes: Earlsfield Court, Bexhill, Rectory Court, Blackheath and Eden Court, Battersea.

This video shows Geoff Pride, the Activities Support Consultant from the Cinnamon Group, leading a group of residents doing ‘Drumtastic’, a brain and body workout which has physical, social, emotional and cognitive benefits. We also see some examples of ‘micro-songs’, short, catchy tunes set to simple functional language. The songs that are shown incorporate physical actions.

    • Use songs to promote particular movements. You can find examples on the website

    • Consider using music with Tai Chi, Chairobics and ‘Drum Fit’. See website for more information

    • Use rhythmic music to assist with regular movements, such as walking, to encourage greater independence

    • Encourage residents to play simple percussion instruments that use different muscle groups E.g. hitting, stroking, blowing
