Help residents to know what is happening through using music systematically

  • This was filmed at Eden Court, a Cinnamon care home.

This video shows how music can be used symbolically – how music and sound can acquire particular meanings. It can help them know what’s happening, what’s happening next, where they are, who they are with. For example, a particular song can be used in association with a meal or an activity.

    • Introduce Sounds of Reference to help residents know what is happening. Sounds of Reference are sounds that have special meanings. There are examples on the website.

    • Use Sounds of Reference to anticipate activities

    • Use Sounds of Reference after activities to show that they have finished

    • Use background music during particular activities to reinforce their understanding of what is happening
